Making the comparison
With only a handful of audio compression formats available, there are two that still garner most of the attention. WMA also known as Windows Media Audio and MP3 which is short for MPEG/Moving Pictures Experts Group Audio Layer 3. The WMA format of the two has been in existence longer then the MP3 format and was developed by Microsoft to be used and played with the Windows Media Player.
What makes the WMA format much different from the MP3 is the ability for files to be DRM (Digital Rights Management) which is encoded in the files and is quite popular with in the music and film industries. As this being the case WMA still has not over come the overly popular MP3 format which is used almost exclusively in today’s world.
If you’re wondering which format can produce the most clarity, the overall consensus would be a split decision. As some would argue that MP3 file formats produce higher quality sound, once the human ear is given a chance to hear the two formats the quality becomes quite noticeable depending on a couple of factors. The headphones used, the ear that is listening, and the compression size.
Although I myself would claim an MP3 produces much higher CD like audio quality, WMA formats can also produce very high audio quality at smaller file sizes. The debate still exists that if you set both WMA and MP3 at the same streaming level the WMA has the ability to remove distortion that can be heard in an MP3. If you increase the size of the MP3 I find the quality to be much higher even though the file size is slightly larger. The only place to be cautious with and MP3 is when using low bit rates as the quality can much lower and undesirable.
The Mp3 format provides a higher quality sound because of its audio coding that compresses it to CD quality sound. Although the argument can be made on both sides, WMA formats will always be flying under because of the extreme popularity of the MP3, used by most in today’s world of music.

How to Reformat an Mp3 Player
Clear it’s memory and give it a fresh start
As a seller of mp3 players, there have been a lot of questions that came up while in the business. One of which was “how do I reformat my mp3 player?” So I wanted to give a little small tutorial on what to do if you may need to reformat your mp3 player.
The thing about these mp3 players is that they are probably the most easiest to reformat. With just a few clicks you can completely wipe out everything on the memory. So let’s get into it.
The simply steps to reformat your mp3 player:
- If you haven’t figured out how to hook it up to your computer, then simply take the USB cord that was given
to you and plug it into your computer and then the other end to your mp3 player.
- Wait for the plug and play to take place; you’ll notice the “open folder” window pop up. Close this window
- Go to your “My Computer” and you will notice an extra hard drive that will state drive F: G: or something in those letters and it will also say USB next to it.
- Right click with your mouse on that hard drive icon. You will receive a list of options. Click on the format option with a left mouse click.
- Next the reformat window will appear. Select the scroll down of the capacity to the maximum option available.
- Next is the file system, you check what you’re Windows is running by go to “My computer” and clicking on your
C: drive once. At the side panel or the bottom, depending on which Windows you are running, it will display if you have a FAT, FAT32 or NTFS.
- Select whichever file system you are running.
- In the allocation unit size, I leave this to its default status.
- Next, you want to check the check box that says “Quick Format” and click start. Once it has been completed
you can close the window and you’re mp3 player will be cleaned and reformatted.
It’s not too technical but I thought I should create simple instructions for those who are having some trouble with reformatting their device. Hope this helps.

Try charging your mp3 player when it is at its lowest battery power and stay consistent with this system. I find
that doing this allows mp3 players to charge naturally from beginning to end. You also want to leave it hooked up until it is completely full charged and you also don’t want to disrupt the charging during.
If it temporary battery life your looking to extend, try turning off the back light, and special features such as
the equalizer. Some extra features can start to drain your battery play time by 30 minutes or more. This is especially true with iPods and other similar mp3 players.
If you haven’t already done so, dress your player up! Not only does this give you another cool color option for your mp3 player but it can also offer much added protection from drops and provide shock resistance.
In taking these actions you may notice that you’re mp3 player runs more efficiently while also giving you the extras of an extended battery life, not only short term but in the long run as well.

The very least expensive way to go about getting your mp3 accessories is to buy the universal kind. If you go to your local electronics store and look at the prices on these accessories, they can be a bit over priced. A few years ago when I had bought my first mp3 player I wanted a few accessories, but when I went to go look for some it made no sense to pay for over priced items. Doing some research online paid off as I found better universal mp3 accessories that you can’t find in the stores.
Some of these included stereo speakers for my shuffle, the kind that has a three stand leg. Silicone cases by the dozen! You can find a nice fitted case in the color you want and they actually fit nicely on any mp3 mp4 player. My main concern was compatibility! Where these universal accessories going to work for my mp3 player? Well the out come of that was definitely well worth the low price I paid for. Usually on the retailers product page you’ll find all the information on compatibility of each accessory. The shuffle speakers end up being a nice edition to my music player. What was better was that it worked with my mp4 player as well. Low price and added value, now that’s the way to shop!
From a few years ago the variety and options have grown and advanced well. Screen protectors, speakers, special wires/cords, cases, hard crystal cases, all the way up to accessories for your car have been made. Finding something of your needs can be done at prices that will fit real well with in your budget.
I no longer even bother with going to the electronic stores anymore unless of course they offer something similar in the right price range. Sick of the same old repeated songs on the radio? Me too! If you’re looking for an affordable way to enjoy your music in the car then here are your digital mp3 transmitters! I’m actually quite glad this little device was invented, with out it I would go absolutely nuts! It’s the most convenient gadget that can make your long commutes or vacations a nice one with a bit of your own touch of music playing.
Having a digital mp3 transmitter is really simple to use. They usually come equipped with about 5 FM frequencies so you can pick and chose the station for the best quality. They come in all shapes, sizes and colors and come with the car charger so you can continually use it with out the use of batteries. But you also have the option to use a battery if needed. The other end of the transmitter plugs directly into your mp3 or mp4 player where the headphones go. And that’s it! Pick your song, set the station and your good to go.
One thing you might have to double check before you do decide to purchase an mp3 transmitter is the headphone jack size. Some times the mp3’s or mp4’s can come with a 2.0 or a 3.0 set and the same with the transmitters. The 2.0 jacks are the thinner smaller outlets and the 3.0 is the slightly bigger outlet. You don’t want to end up with 2 different sizes and then have to make a return. Make sure it all checks
out before you buy.
If you have a cassette deck player in your car you can also use a cassette transmitter. This would be much
better for clarity simply for the fact being that you wouldn’t have to rely on having on point
reception with your radio station.
From what I’ve noticed some mp3 transmitters that are a little more expensive can give you better sound quality. This does, however, depend on your reception from your antenna. If you can supply both, nice signal strength to the radio station along with the transmitter you can’t go wrong. I have put a good few of these to the test and whether they’re high priced or not they can still get the job done quite admirably.
